An It Girl Too Soon

It may not have multimillion viewers (yet), but The CW’s Gossip Girl has just as many rumors.

Spotted (not really): Producers of the sleeper hit show in a conference room, texting…furiously texting one another ideas for a spin-off, one that will revolve either around Jenny (Taylor Momsen, pictured at right with on-screen brother Penn Badgley) or a new, yet-to-be-introduced character.

The cult Gossip Girl books on which the show is based at one point split off Jenny on her own adventures, in the It Girl series, after one too many humiliations force Little J to leave for boarding school.

Ahh, Hollywood: You really do like your too much too soon, don’t you?

You’ve got a good thing going. Gossip Girl has just finished its first season, and it’s great fun to see Jenny go up against Queen Bee Blair (Leighton Meester). Let’s leave well enough alone for a couple more seasons, OK?

Update: Goody goody gum drops! In response to today’s report, Gossip Girl creator Josh Schwartz says, “We have no plans right now for a TV spin-off.”
