One of Hollywood most prolific multi-hyphenates, Sydney Pollack, died of cancer at age 73 yesterday.
An Academy Award-winning producer-director (Out of Africa), and a multi-faceted actor (TV’s Will & Grace, Michael Clayton), Pollack was famous for his decades-spawning generosity, which definitely translated on screen.
“Sydney made the world a little better, movies a little better, and even dinner a little better,” said his Michael Clayton co-star George Clooney. “A tip of the hat to a class act. He’ll be missed terribly.”

Update: Tom Cruise is also remembering Pollack, saying, “Throughout the years, unpretentious and never condescending, he shared with me what he loved about family, storytelling, food, flying and a great bottle of vino. He was a Renaissance man and a great friend. I will miss him dearly.”
