Dubbed “a serious spectacle” at the ongoing 61st Cannes Film Festival, Fernando Meirelles’ Blindness doesn’t open stateside until Sept. 19, but it’s already near the top of my list.
Starring Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal, Don McKellar, and Danny Glover, the film follows what happens after sudden blindness plagues more than 90 percent of the population, and a small group of the afflicted decides to band to overcome the horrific conditions of their imposed quarantine.
Sounds like smart thriller to me.
