R.I.P. Prop 8, At Least for Now

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, a federal judge in San Francisco,
overturned California’s ban on same-sex marriage this afternoon, saying the voter-approved rule violated the constitutional rights of gays and lesbians.

Right on, Judge Walker!

The decision, which – urgh! – is already being appealed, is an initial step in what will likely be a lengthy legal fight over the state’s Prop 8, which defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

Seems the tide of change in America is coming from the west, so old on tight.

Update 1: Hollywoods power players, natch, expressed their support and praise of the overturn in the hours after the news came, including Ellen DeGeneres, Ricky Martin, Lady GaGa, Britney Spears, Pink, Lance Bass, Paris Hilton, and the Kardashians.

Update 2: Loved Sandra Bernhards tweet to President Obama regarding the news (and his birthday): @BarackObama how about a step toward federal same sex marriage so i get a little more out of my taxes happy birthday.

Update 3: One of the communitys biggest allies, Lady GaGa, also tweeted her happiness. Ditto Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family, and Milla Jovovich, who would like the rest of the country to follow suit, among others.

You know when Mexico is ahead of the curve on this type of thing that the U.S. is more backwards than it lets on. For shame!
