Earlier this year, we found out that the Bret Easton Ellis novel American Psycho had been turned into an off-West End musical production starring Doctor Who’s Matt Smith.
Spring Awakening’s mastermind Duncan Sheik was behind the show, so, obviously, the question then became not if but when would the show be arriving stateside. On Broadway, in particular.
The answer? Pretty soon, if everything works out the way it should for the powers that be. And with Benjamin Walker, that tall glass o’ water from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, in the title role.
Indeed, the Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson star is said to be set to exercise the part of that murderous epitome of ’80s excess, Patrick Bateman, in an Off-Broadway staging of the show that will begin previews next February for a March opening.
I’ve always heard Walker’s the s--- (he just captured everyone’s attention in a loin-clothed performance of Hair at the Hollywood Bowl), so casting approved!
So first Off-Broadway. And then...the Great White Way.
