Irish tall glass o’ water Chris O’Dowd – who’s about to be seen in The Sapphires, Miami! – likes the smell of awards bait.

So, like a good shark, the actor is circling Harvey Weinstein’s new buzzy project, St. Vincent De Van Nuys, starring Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy.

The 2011 Black List script revolves around a 12-year-old kid who buddies up to his old (and cantankerous?) next-door neighbor, a war vet who spends his days gambling and boozing it up, sometimes in the company of ladies of the night.

My, my.

O’Dowd would play a Catholic priest who is somehow connected to all the action.
