The New Papillon

So manly.

Charlie Hunnam is gonna channel the Steve McQueen within him.

The Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur star has been tapped to headline a remake of the 1973 title, Papillon.

Danish helmer Michael Noer is set to direct the project, which will center on a man unjustly convicted of murder in 1930s France and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in a South American prison, where he meets a man who finances his escape in exchange for protection.

I foresee some shirtlessness....

Herewith La Barbie

Oh, Hollywood....

You get kudos for stubbornness, I’ll give ya that.

Currently embroiled in a sociopolitical and PR race nightmare, Hollywood has decided that Charlie Hunnam can pass for Mexican.

See, evidently, the (blond, blue-eyed) Brit  who is totally chasing It status in the wake of the lukewarmly received Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim and his solid seven-season performance on FX’s Sons of Anarchy  is set to portray Mexican-American drug lord Edgar Valdez Villarreal, a.k.a. La Barbie, on account of his fair complexion.

Because who else.

#SMH, alright.

Introducing the New King Arthur

Holy!

Did you see how hot the erstwhile Son of Anarchy Charlie Hunnam looks on the cover of the latest Entertainment Weekly? His King Arthur – that’s the whole point of the magazine this week, the forthcoming Guy Ritchie-helmed new franchise about the character – is gonna make you wanna som’in’ fierce.

And, like, hello...shades of a young Brad Pitt much?

Of Haunts and Houses

Crimson Peak.

It is the film a fervent section of the fandom has been waiting for with breath that is bated.

For realsies. It’s been more than two years since we first learned we needed to get excited about this one.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Benedict Cumberbatch Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone Mia Wasikowska (Madame Bovary), and del Toro’s Pacific Rim stud, Charlie Hunnam, the upcoming gothic thriller revolves around a young novelist (Wasikowska) who, little by little realizes, that her dashing new husband (the Hiddle-hunk) is not everything he says he is – and neither is the old manor in which they live with his beyond-intense sister (Chastain). Hunnam co-stars as handsome doctor crushing on our heroine.

Check out the trailer now, and save the date, for Crimson Peak opens in theaters on Oct. 16.

The King Is Here

King Arthur is off to the race...to the movie theater.

Production on Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur has begun, and, to mark the occasion, the director has tweeted out a from-set first-look pic of his star, Charlie Hunnam, in costume as Arthur Pendragon.

Nice!

The movie – which is set for July 2016 – will also feature Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Eric Bana, and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere.

The New Z-itizen

Boo.

Benedict Cumberbatch is not going to be looking for The Lost City of Z, after all.

Instead, Charlie Hunnam will be taking over the lead role in the adaptation of David Granns non-fiction book, which will center on Percy Fawcett, an explorer who in 1925 ventured into the depths of the Brazilian Amazon to map the area but ended up discovering a mythical city.

Robert Pattinson is still on board, and American Sniper’s Sienna Miller has joined the project and will be playing Mrs. Fawcett.

He Just Wants to Be Bad, Huh?

Charlie Hunnam must have liked playing bad on FX’s Sons of Anarchy’cause there he goes again.

Well, yes...I know that his being bad on the show was all relative.

Anyway....

The actor has signed to star in American Drug Lord, the story of Edgar Valdez, a.k.a. La Barbie, the only American to rise to the leadership ranks of the Mexican cartel.

Hunnam will co-produce the film, which Jason Hall (American Sniper) is writing.

A Very Hunnam Christmas

This Christmas, all you’ll need is a little Charlie Hunnam.

And thank Gwyneth for the folks at Men’s Health ’cause that’s exactly what they’ve served up for their December issue.

Makes you wanna be all naughty and roll in the hay with the Sons of Anarchy star, huh.

Guy’s King

Charlie Hunnam may not have gotten to play Christian Grey, but, whatever...the prince of FX’s Sons of Anarchy is gonna get to play a king.

Guy Ritchie’s king.

The director reportedly wants no one else to take on the role of King Arthur in the epic first film of a veritably epic proposed six-film franchise.

I approve. It’s about time Hunnam pulled the sword outta the stone and became the Hollywood big-screen leading man he needs to be.

Grey No Mo’

Matt Bomer, you are back in play. You as well, Ian Somerhalder.

What do I mean?

I mean Charlie Hunnam has backed out of the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Just a little after a month from getting the part.

The powers that be pointed to the actor“immersive TV schedule” on FXs Sons of Anarachy as the main reason why he had to leave the buzzy project.

I reckon the fans of the E L James novel who wanted Bomer to play the S&M-happy rich-and-young industrialist opposite Dakota Johnson, who is still on board to play nubile college student Anastasia Steele, will be hitting the message boards in 3...2...1....

And that Somerhalder, who much to his chagrin never was really considered for the part, is feeling just a little hopeful right now.

Behold Christian Grey

Clearly, E L James’ camp does not celebrate Labor Day.

Hot on the heels of the Dakota Johnson-as-Anastasia Steele announcement, the powers that be at the Fifty Shades of Grey movie have just announced that – Glorious Shirtlessness Alert! – Charlie Hunnam will, indeed, play Christian Grey.

Embrace your newly elevated sex symbol status, man.

Embrace it hard, for the mommy porn set is coming after you.

A Blond Grey Possibility

One of the best parts of this summer’s smashtastic Pacific Rim was the sight of Charlie Hunnam’s chiseled abs like, 15 seconds into the movie.

I’ve known about Hunnam’s assets for years, and I’ve know that he can act (as has anyone who has ever watched FXs Sons of Anarchy), no matter his tiresome one-note cowboy posturing in the would-be blockbuster that kinda wasn’t might’ve suggested.

So it should come as no surprise that his is the latest name bandied about for the role of Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

A fine option, indeed.

Now, apropos of nothing, if only that Memoirs of Hadrian film with Daniel Craig he was meant to have worked on had happened....

Looking to Peak

Charlie Hunnam must have liked working with Guillermo del Toro a lot on Pacific Rim – the two are said to be doing it again.

Hunnam, who is vibing som’in’ major as this year’s Taylor Kitsch (here’s to hoping for better results, though), is eyeing a starring role opposite Emma Stone in the director’s forthcoming horror story Crimson Peak.

Stone is still very much in talks to join the project. As is the Sons of Anarchy, for that matter.

But I think they both should do it. In case they or y’all were wondering.

Ocean Warriors

There is a portal between dimensions deep beneath the Pacific Ocean, and aliens are coming through it!

Oh, and to fight them off, humans have built these massively powerfully robots operated by a neuro-bridge – a what?! – between two fearless pilots at the helm!

That, in a nutshell, is the the plot of Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming summer blockbuster Pacific Rim, starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi (Babel), Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day.

It all sounds little too something for my taste. Like, a bit too make-room-for-a-buddy-John Carter-risky.

But I’ll go see the darn thing because it features that supa-stud Hunnam.

Oof. Oof, oof!

He can sell me anything, that guy.

The Men Who Lost All Hope
In the upcoming The Ledge, Charlie Hunnam (pictured here with Liv Tyler) and Patrick Wilson play two men teetering on the verge of change.

One is a man without fate, while the other is a righteous, vengeful man. Their paths have crossed because they both love the same woman, and now the latter is forcing the former to take the ultimate leap or else.

There’s plenty of intrigue to go around in this romantic thriller check out the trailer and tell me otherwise so it is up to Terrence Howard to figure it all out for us.

You can see how it all works out when The Ledge becomes available On Demand on May 25 and then opens in theaters later in the summer (it’s a new business model that’s yielding some nice results for the powers that be that dare to go with it, FYI, so don’t poo-poo the movie because of it).

Sizing Up the Ring

Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam has his eye on a role as boxer in the indie thriller KIN.

The cutie-patootie is in talks – as is Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy) and Eric Bana – to star in Stefan Ruzowitzky’s (The Counterfeiters) next project.

Wilde and Bana would play fugitive siblings who encounter an ex-boxer (Hunnam) coming home for the holidays.

Production is set to begin in Canada in March.

Sexing Up Daniel Craig

Charlie Hunnam, you’re a (gorgeous) lucky one.

The English actor, whose big-screen credits include Nicholas Nickleby, Cold Mountain, and Children of Men (as well as the TV show Undeclared), will seduce Daniel Craig in a film adaptation of Marguerite Yourcenar’s 1951 novel Memoirs of Hadrian.

Craig is slated to play the Roman emperor Hadrian, while Hunnam will take on the role of Antinous, a young Bithynian man with whom he had an affair.

You know, I didn’t think Daniel Craig could get any hotter…but with Charlie Hunnam on top – well, his hotness will be off the charts.
