9021-Oh the Drama

When Beverly Hills, 90210 went off the air after a decade in 2000, it went down as one of TV’s top dramas, because of what was happening on and off screen.

The CW’s remake premiering in less than a month, 90210, promises the same.

The blogosphere recently reported that original-flavor cast member Tori Spelling will not reprise her role as Donna Martin in the remake due to a salary dispute. Spelling is said to have been offered “$10,000-$20,000” per episode – a lot less than the “$35,000-$50,000” per episode offered to ol’ co-stars Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth.

“[The press thinks Shannen and I a]re at war over salary with Tori,” said Garth, who will once again play Kelly Taylor in 90210. “I didn’t know I was at war with Tori.

“I’m really bummed because I love Tori and I was psyched [she] was going to be on the show. I think she should definitely get paid as much as either of us is getting paid. Her father [the late Aaron Spelling] created the show. It just seems wrong if that’s the case.”

Doherty, who will finally return to her famous zip code as much-missed Brenda Walsh, says she isn’t taking the reports at face value – and that we shouldn’t, either.

“They didn’t even get the numbers right,” she said, “so I don’t know if it’s about the money.”

All The CW had to say about the controversy was, “[We] ha[ve] no deal with Tori Spelling to appear on 90210 at this time.”

Duh’nuh-nuh-nuh, Duh’nuh-nuh-nuh – swoosh swoosh!

She’s Baaack!

Shannen Doherty is headed back to the 90210 – and she’s bringing the drama with her when she goes.

Doherty’s Brenda Walsh was written off Beverly Hills, 90210 after the show’s fourth season due the actress
reported off-screen antics. Ms. Walsh left for London, and was never seen on screen again.

Until now.

Brenda, who became a famous actress and then a famous director while across the pond, will be back via The CW’s remake of the show this fall, as a guest of her old high school, to stage a play.

Doherty’s former co-star, Tori Spelling (who’s also expected to appear in the new 90210) calls the return “amazing.”

Uh duh.

“That’s probably the best news the fans could ever get,” Spelling told People this weekend.

No, Tor-Tor – that’s the most amazing news we could ever get.

Is That You Brenda?

In his new Ausiello Files column for EW.com, Michael Ausiello reported today that Shannen Doherty is “in formal talks” to reprise her star-making role of Brenda Walsh in The CW’s remake of Beverly Hills, 90210.

Ausiello says the producers behind 90210, recently met with Hollywood’s infamous hellraiser to gauge her interest in returning to the zip code from which she was banished in 1994. And, whaddya know, she is interested.

“But,” Ausiello’s insider said, “she wants to know what the story is going to be first.” And she also wants more money than they’re offering. (Doherty’s former – and future? – co-stars, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling already are attached to the remake.)

I always thought original-flavor 90210 never was the same after Brenda left for London, so I’m extremely curious to find out what she’s been up to all these years. And it’s always a treat to see Doherty, one of my favorites, on the tube.

I Got You, Shannen!

Shannen Doherty has shaved her head in preparation for her breast-cancer treatment, and she chronicled the move on her Instagram.

It’s a brave, bold move that surely is meant to bring us along for the journey in order to bring strength from our collective well wishes.

And all I have to say is I got you, girl!

Doherty confirmed she’s in the fight of her life almost a year ago.

Dropping the Bitch Act

Shannen Doherty is re-inventing herself as a lady of comedy.

The actress is fed up with her bitch persona, so she’s putting the final touches on a reality-type show, reportedly to show her “lighter and funnier” side.

Ew – reality? She can do so much better than that.

Doherty will not only star in the project, tentatively titled Shannen (how inspired!), but she will also produce. She has apparently met with several networks.

Uh, call E!, dear.

Or better yet: Call your agent and tell them to get you on, I dunno, True Blood or something. I read the HBO hit show needs someone to play Debbie Pelt, the psycho ex-girlfriend of third-season player, the werewolf Alcide.

Doherty Reality

One of my favorite gals, Shannen Doherty, is about to get real, y
’all.

The erstwhile Hollywood hellcat is eyeing a comeback via WEtv that will follow all the drama – how Brenda of her! – surrounding her upcoming nuptials to her celebrity photographer-fiancĂ©, Kurt Iswarienko, and her Malibu home renovations.

“People will see a side of Shannen they never expected to see,” an exec for the cabler said.

The plan is to have the as-yet-untitled show premiere next January, and end the first season with the happy couples wedding.

Standing with Shannen

Shannen Doherty has breast cancer.

The erstwhile Prue from TV’s Charmed – and, of course, the Brenda Walsh of the 90210 hills of Beverly – confirmed news of her illness this week, after it was reported that she had filed a lawsuit against her former business manager for failing to pay her insurance premiums, which resulted in the cancellation of her policy and to an inability to receive the medical care she finds herself needing.

We all know that Doherty is a tough chick, so let’s stand with her and send her the bestest vibes so she can stand up to cancer herself and kick cancer right where it needs to be kicked.

Duh’nuh-nuh-nuh, Duh’nuh-nuh-nuh

Swoosh swoosh!

The return of America’s favorite zip code – and Shannen Doherty! – is upon us, and Jennie Garth and Doherty are gracing the cover of Entertainment Weekly this week to let everyone know about it.

This is major for The CW, an upstart network that in spite of having buzzed-about shows like Gossip Girl and Smallville on schedule – and having once had Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls as its crown jewels – had yet to score this type of coverage.

Not since Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I don’t think, has EW given young-adult-targeted shows such a plum spot.

The article covers the reunion between the old co-stars, who appear to have left the past in the past, next to those persistent fistfight rumors.

It also contains their in-unison “No” when they were asked if they ever imagined they’d be working together again, and previews and spoilers about the 90210 remake that’s bringing Brenda Walsh from London back to California and for a visit with her frenemy Kelly Taylor.

I cannot wait for the two-hour premiere on Sept. 2. It’s going to be great to see these two on screen.

To the Pumpkin Patch She Goes

I’m officially worried about Shannen Doherty’s career.

The actress
has signed on to star in a holiday-themed Hallmark Channel original movie set to premiere a year from now.

You know, for the whole family to watch and whatnot.

I guess she’s serious about dropping the bitch act.

Doherty has been cast in Growing the Big One, which centers on a woman who inherits her debt-ridden family farm and enters a pumpkin-growing contest in hope of avoiding foreclosure. Along the way, she falls in love with her partner in the contest.

I still think she’d be perfect on True Blood as Debbie Pelt, the psycho ex-girlfriend of third-season player, the werewolf Alcide.

Gird Your Loins

Brenda Walsh will be back.

Again.

At a movie premiere in L.A. last night, the original bad girl, Shannen Doherty, confirmed Kelly Taylor’s worst fears: her all-time frenemy B.W. will be going back to America’s most famous zip code for the first-season finale of The CW’s 90210.

Drama will follow for sure.

Love it!

The Bitch We Have Been Waiting for

I guess the True Blood powers that be weren’t too keen – like, at all! – on my Shannen Doherty-as-Debbie Pelt idea.

Whatever.

The role of the werewolf Alcide’s crazy ex
has gone to Brit Morgan, a newcomer who co-starred in the short-lived ABC Family drama The Middleman.

Now that all the pieces are in place for the third season of the HBO hit – Debbie Pelt was the last role in need of casting – can summer get here already?

The Six-pack at the Center of a 90210 Reunion

Ian Ziering’s six-pack is so hot – how hot is it? – it brings the girls to the yard.

Well, to Vegas, actually.

The actor and his rippedlicious 49-year-old bod welcomed his Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth to Sin City over the weekend. The pair arrived in town to check out how Ziering shakes it on stage while performing with the Chippendales guys.

Nice...and nice, huh.

Call Him Alcide

The search is over, True Blood fans: Joe Manganiello will play the werewolf Alcide next season.

I know – who?

I personally was rooting for Hero-no-more Adrian Pasdar, but the powers that be obviously didn’t ask moi.

Manganiello, who has appeared on TV’s One Tree Hill and How I Met Your Mother, will tease Sookie (Anna Paquin), who’ll crush hard on him.

The search still is on, though, for Alcide’s on-again, off-again psycho girlfriend Debbie Pelt. My vote: Shannen Doherty!

Simply Irresistible, Pt. 34

Try as I might I just cannot help but feel excited over 90210, The CW’s upcoming remake of the popular show…what was it called?

In the remake, premiering early next month, the kids pictured at right are the Brandon and Brenda Walsh characters, Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon (Tristan Wilds), who along with their parents move to California from Kansas to tend to their ailing high-maintenance grandmother (Arrested Development’s priceless Jessica Walter).

I also cannot wait to see returning original flavor cast members Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth, who reportedly will go head to head for the affections of a West Beverly High teacher character played by Ryan Eggold.

All About Kelly (Still) – But Team Brenda 4ever

Swoosh, swoosh!

Fans of original-flavor 90210, here’s a reason to celebrate: three of your favorites got together again recently.

But not for reunion or a return to the new 90210, but celebrate one of their own.

Shannen Doherty and Ian Ziering hit West Hollywood last night to celebrate Jennie Garth’s big 4-0 and support the launch of her new reality show on CMT, Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country.

Awww! That really made me smile.

Once a Hot Zip Code, Always a Hot Zip Code

We knew she was coming – we just didn’t know how she’d make her entrance.

Last night, though, at the 88-minute mark of The CW’s 90210 two-hour premiere, Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty, pictured at right) walked into the Peach Pit and ordered a shake and French fries (extra crispy).

And thus, a 14-year wait to see her again ended, with Nat (Joe E. Tata) saying, to Brenda and Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth), “Oh, it’s so good to see both of ya in this place again.”

Indeed, it is.

The new show, which is based on Darren Star’s 1990-2000-running fan fave, focuses, of course, on a new group of people, but it was the nostalgia of the Brenda-Kelly reunion that made me watch…which isn’t to say I won’t be tuning in again next week.

I’m so glad the fall TV season started early this year.

This Year’s It Girl?

I know it is way too early in 2007 to think about singling out an It Girl for the year, but think about buying what I’m selling for a brief moment before you dismiss it.

Rose McGowan.

Of Scream fame (she played Neve Campbell’s best friend). Of Charmed fame (she replaced Shannen Doherty). Of I-dated-Marilyn Manson-and-lived-to-tell-the-story fame.

McGowan co-stars in April 6’s anticipated Grindhouse – a one-two punch of a movie that features her as a machine gun-legged badass (check out the trailer here).

Now tell me that ain’t It.

The Bad Girl’s Dance

Pamela Anderson and Kate Gosselin, you’re about to get schooled.

The two blond non-MILFs are going up against Hollywood’s original bad girl, Shannen freakin’ Doherty, on the new season of TV’s Dancing with the Stars.

The cast also includes Buzz Aldrin, sexy Winter Olympian Evan Lysacek, Niecy Nash (Comedy Central’s Reno 911!), and Nicole “MVPussycat Doll” Scherzinger.

Team Doherty all the way! Like, I just may have to tune in all the way.
