Young New Lawyer

Christine Baranski shocked the s--- outta viewers when she slapped The Good Wife the way she did at the end of last season (The Good Wife’s last).

Now that she and Cush Jumbo are getting their own CBS All Access spin-off of The Good Wife, it’s time for another surprise from the character she played all the way to six Emmy nominations, the indomitable Diane Lockhart.

Girlfriend is...a godmother.

And, yes, we are going to meet her goddaughter now that Rose Leslie has been cast in the role.

The erstwhile Game of Thrones player will portray a young woman – duh – named Maia who turns to Diane fresh out of law school after a massive financial scam leaves her barely established reputation in shambles. Said scam also has affected Diane’s standing in the Chicago legal landscape (not to mention her savings), so together they join Jumbo’s Lucca Quinn’s side at another firm.

Where drama and gender politics will abound, I’m sure.

The Good Wife spin-off series is set to premiere on CBS this coming February before moving to the networks new On Demand platform.

And don’t worry, folks: Robert and Michelle King, the mothership’s celebrated creators and driving forces, are steering the pilot and will executive produce the new offering.
