A Good Citizen of the World

Edward Norton cares.

The actor is leading a fundraising effort for a family of Syrian refugees through a CrowdRise campaign that he launched last Saturday. The money will go toward a Syrian scientist-engineer’s stomach cancer-related medical bills.

The man, you see, lost his wife and six other family members in a missile attack two years ago, and he and his remaining family will be relocating to Troy, Mich., soon.

Knowing and understanding that helping Syrian refugees is not necessarily something his countrymen are chomping at the bit to do these days (even though President Obama left a message on the fundraiser’s page welcoming the man to the United States), Norton wrote on CrowdRise of the “anti-human” folks currently acting the fools on the subject (cough, cough, Donald Trump, cough)“Let’s reject [those] voices that tell us to fear refugees and show this man and his family what Americans are really made of.

“Let’s show that a country built by the energy and dreams of immigrants still believes in brave people who come here with hope for better life.

Hear, hear.
