The HFAs Have Arrived

So the Hollywood Film Awards were broadcast on TV for the first time ever last night.

Aw, probrecitos – they so wanted to be the Golden Globes.

But they weren’t.

Who knows, though...maybe one day.

Here’s the thing: Evidently, the HFAs have been a thing for 18 years now. The winners are selected by a small committee led by someone named Carlos de Abreu that, supposedly, watches every worthy film watching, even if it has yet to come out (rough cuts are, supposedly, supplied, yo).

In any case, The Imitation Game was, hands down, the big winner of the evening. Benedict Cumberbatch took home the Hollywood Actor Award, while his co-star, Keira Knightley (pictured here), won the Hollywood Supporting Actress Award.

Gone Girl emerged the winner of the Hollywood Film Award.

While the broadcast was a bit of a ratings bust for CBS, I understand that the plan is to put on the show again next year and again in 2016. I wish the powers that be. A seemingly drunk Johnny Depp will not happen every year.
