A Slave Story

Any time Michael Fassbender works with director Steve McQueen, magic happens.

Now, the Fass may not be the star of the upcoming 12 Years a Slave, as he was in McQueen’s Shame, but it sure looks like he will be play a pivotal part in the film opening this fall.

This is the extraordinary story of Solomon Northup (Salt’s Chiwetel Ejiofor), a real-life free man who lived in New York until the day he was deceived by some mean mofos and sold into slavery in pre-Civil War America. It’s the story of a man who didn’t just want to survive – he wanted to live.

Fassbender plays his ruthless – was there ever any other kind? – plantation owner.

Check out the trailer (and mark the evening of Oct. 18 as a movie night in your calendar, you):

12 Years a Slave also features Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt, Quvenzhané Wallis, and Alfre Woodard.

So, yeah...this one reeks of awards bait. And I likey.
