And the 2013 Oscar Nominees Are...

The nominees were just announced and my insta-reaction is I feel thrilled for Silver Linings Playbook.

The film got nominated for Best Picture.

David O. Russell snuck in there for Best Director.

And the entire main cast – Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and Jackie Weaver – was singled out in the acting categories.

Yay!

To recap further, though, Joaquin Phoenixs work in The Master spoke for itself when the actor wouldn’t (he’s gone on the record to put down awards season campaigning).

The Academy made history by nominating the oldest and youngest actresses ever in the Best Actress category: Emmanuelle Riva from Amour and Quvenzhané Wallis from Beasts of the Southern Wild. Both films had stronger showings at the nominations than expected, snagging Best Director and Best Picture nods.

Oh, and Adele was nominated for her theme song for Skyfall.

Update: About 12 hours after the Oscar noms were announced, Argo and Best Director snub Ben Affleck took top honors at the Critics Choice Awards.

Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln), Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) and Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) won CCAs for acting.
