Girls Gone Loco

Leaving behind London, where Match Point, Scoop, and Cassandra’s Dream were set, Woody Allen traveled to Spain to film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, due out on Aug. 29.

If the enticing trailer is any indication, Allen has produced the perfect late-summer season offering: a breezy, emotional, and sexy sort of film.

In it, two American women, sensible and engaged-to-be-married Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and emotionally and sexually adventurous Cristina (Allen muse Scarlett Johansson) head to Barcelona on summer holiday.

There, they’re drawn into a series of unconventional romantic entanglements with Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), a charismatic painter who’s still involved with his tempestuous ex-wife, Maria Elena (Penélope Cruz).

A funny and open-minded celebration of love in all its configurations ensues.
