Will the Actors Strike Back?

It seems Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, and George Clooney were onto something….

After three weeks of “insufficient progress” negotiating with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced today that it is turning its attention to the other actors union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).

The goal will be to hammer out a new primetime contract for AFTRA-covered shows like HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm – and, ultimately, to avoid another debilitating Hollywood walkout like the 100-day-long writers strike that ended in February.

I like the sound of that, but I’m not sure the news is all that good. Is it?

The contracts for both SAG and AFTRA expire June 30.

Stay tuned.
