Jennifer Connelly is finally starring in a movie I’d be interested to see.

The Oscar winner is in talks to co-star in Writers as the ex-wife of a novelist (to, maybe, be played by Greg Kinnear). The indie project will follow their tricky relationship over the course of a year.

Kylie Minogue is celebrating 25 years in the music industry this year, and she is going to celebrate with her biggest fans – the gays! – in just a couple of months.

Yup, Minogue will be the centerpiece of March’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which will serve as a highlight of her own K25 – 25 Years of Kylie events.

So much for not having guests on this season, Glee (coming up next are Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, and Pitbull, plus Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jeff Goldblum as Rachel’s gay dads).

TV’s musical juggernaut has nabbed one of the medium’s most addictively watchable stars, Matthew Bomer (from USA Network’s White Collar and the upcoming Magic Mike) to play the older brother of Darren Criss’ Blaine.

Bomer is expected to make his Glee debut in April.

Demi Moore’s loss is Sarah Jessica Parker’s gain.

Now that the raven-haired actress has dropped out of Lovelace due to health issues (get well soon, Demi...really!), Sarah Jessica Parker has been tapped to play Gloria Steinheim in the upcoming, star-studded Linda Lovelace biopic starring Amanda Seyfried.

It had been reported that another Parker, Mary-Louise, would take over the part, but that was, well...wrong.

Some Spice for the Queen

The Spice Girls are readying another reunion.

And I’m dying....

Alright, I’m back.

Yes, according to Melanie Brown, a.k.a. Scary Spice, the quintet will get back together this summer for a very special performance at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

“I think [that one] is the event I’d be looking at more closely for [a reunion] to happen,” instead of, say, the London Olympics, Brown said, before adding she is always for one such reunion.

“I am going to be in such strife for saying that. It’s all so totally bloody top-secret still.”

Well, not anymore, darling!

R.I.P. Ms. James

Soul and R&B legend Etta James has died at age 73.

The “At Last” singer had been battling terminal leukemia and suffering from dementia and Hepatitis C as well.

Among those in the music world mourning the passing of James today was Beyoncé, who actually played the singer in the 2008 movie Cadillac Records.

“This is a huge loss,” she said. “Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time. She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed.”

The powers that be over at Glee have cast Rachel Berry’s (Lea Michele) always-mentioned-never-seen gay dads, and they will not be played by Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig (as I have envisioned...GTS, too).

No, since one of them had to be African-America (a fact that always escaped me), the proud papas will be played by Tony Award-winning Broadway vet Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jeff Goldblum.

Geppetto?

Tim Burton is in talks to direct a live-action version of the Pinocchio story – and he wants Robert Downey Jr. to be his Geppetto.

The actor is reportedly being courted for the part of the puppet-maker in the movie, which would concentrate more on his search for his lost puppet son than on the boy’s travails.

Neither Burton nor Downey has signed on yet, but both are said to be sweet on the project and on working with each other.

Emma Stone will be checking the funny over on TV’s 30 Rock this new, long-awaited season.

The Help star is actually going to cameo on the show and will be seen in a faux trailer for a faux movie called Martin Luther King Day (think Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve) that co-stars Jane Krakowski’s Jenna.

“I want to lay claim to that bit before anyone gets it,” said Tina Fey, the co-creator and star of 30 Rock.

Whoa, Jessica Chastain is redefining being a working actor in Hollywood.

The white-hot actress, who had a banner 2011, is going to make 2012 another one for the books. She’ll be making her Broadway debut this fall, and now comes word that she is in talks to join Joel Edgerton in Kathryn Bigelow’s film about the takedown of Osama bin Laden.

Chastain would play a field intelligence analyst whose work helps lead the SEAL Team 6 to getting the terrorist.

Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, Green Lantern) and Édgar Ramírez (Domino, the miniseries Carlos) reportedly are circling the project as well.

Joel Edgerton will not be doing battle in another 300 movie, but he will be seeing some action courtesy of Hurt Locker Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow.

The Aussie actor will star in a film about the U.S. military’s pursuit of Osama bin Laden.

Bigelow’s controversial film has been reworked to reflect the Navy SEAL operation that got bin Laden last year.

Eric Johnson (TV’s Rookie Blue) will be fleeing Alcatraz.

I know, I know – who and what?

Alcatraz is the new J.J. Abrams show starring Lost player Jorge Garcia, Sarah Jones, and Sam Neill that’s premiering on Fox on Jan. 16.

The show follows a team of FBI agents tasked with tracking down a group of missing Alcatraz prisoners and guards who begin to turn up in the present day after disappearing 30 years earlier. Johnson will play a smooth-talking criminal keen on the secrets of some safety deposit boxes.

2013 Just Got Its Biggest Baddie

Tilda Swinton, the new Mame Dennis?

Well, it seems like that’s the plan.

The enigmatic Oscar winner reportedly is planning to reunite with her I Am Love director Luca Guadagnino to work on a remake of Auntie Mame.

Swinton would be stepping in the shoes of one Rosalind Russell, who memorably originated the character on stage before reprising it in the Oscar-nominated 1958 adaptation.

(The musical version of Auntie Mame hit Broadway in ’66 and starred Angela Lansbury. A film of the musical premiered eight years, with Lucille Ball in the title role. Got that?)

Indeed, the hottie Aussie, who just wrapped up the massively successful 10-week-run of Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway, will return to the Great White Way in 2013 in Aaron Sorkin’s Houdini, a(nother) musical.

Well, Elton John sure has taste.

The legendary has gone on the record to say that he wouldn’t mind it one bit if Justin Timberlake played him in an upcoming “surreal look at my life in the manner of a Moulin Rouge!” – and I gotta say I’d be an inspired choice.

For one, Timberlake already has played John on a video, the one for “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore.” Plus, the guy can act, and playing a pop icon should prove a cinch.

Alas, this is whole thinking is thinking out loud for John. The only thing that sounds like it’s locked on the project is the script.

The actress has signed on to play Gloria Steinheim in Lovelace, the biopic chronicling the tragic, controversial life of Linda Boreman, a.k.a. Linda Lovelace. (Adrien Brody will play Lovelace’s co-star in Deep Throat, the X-rated actor Harry Reeems.)

Moore joins a cast led by Amanda Seyfried that also includes Peter Sarsgaard, Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Chris Noth, and maybe James Franco.

The news comes on the eve of the debut on Bravo of Goreski’s own reality show, It’s a Brad, Brad World, on Jan. 2.

The Song of 2011

This is quite probably the easiest choice I’ve had to make all year: Adele’s “Someone Like You” is the song of the 2011.

Yeah, it’s reaching an uncomfortable level of ubiquity (it’s been made fun of on SNL, to great effect – GTS), but Adele’s beautiful, career-landmark ballad deserves to be heard time and time again, if anything because she felt it and she wrote it and she shared it. It’s really possibly the rawest of her songs in terms of emotion, and if you have a pulse and two wits about ya you know what I mean and why I chose it (it does what music is supposed to do...relate and move listeners while allowing them to sing along, so to borrow a phrase: winning!).

So What Is This About Again?

I am hearting the vintage feel of the poster for Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy, but I’m also a bit confused by the look of it.

Front and center are Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman, riding a classic car, with Kidman shooting Efron a slightly flirting look and with the young star looking all muscle-y.

Is she taking him back to her place in Courgarville as her cuckold husband (Matthew McConaughey) feels all left and whatnot in the background?

And what is up with John Cusack and that look? Is he the assassin McConaughey sends after Efron and Kidman?

And why is this called The Paperboy?

Well, that’s because the movie is adapted from the Pete Dexter novel about a reporter and his brother and their attempt to get an innocent man off death row in the ’60s.

So none of my theories hold water.

Oh, well...I still wanna see this one. Soon.

R.I.P. Cheetah

Well, he lived a good life and he made many people smile, but now, sadly, he’s gone: Cheetah, the chimp from the 1930s Tarzan movies starring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O’Sullivan, has died at age 80.

The Hollywood legend passed away on Christmas Eve after suffering kidney failure the week before.

Cheetah had been living in Florida, where he’d retired in the ’60s.

For months now you’ve probably been wondering just what’s up with Ben Affleck’s hair, right?

The actor-cum-accomplished director has been working on Argo, a political thriller about the 1979 Iran hostage crisis starring him.

This is what he will look like in the movie opening next September.

Seems like bf will get himself in some hair situations, huh. (Puns!)

Da One Sounds Good

A funny thing happened on my way to falling for Rihanna’s “You Da One” – I didn’t...not immediately, anyway.

But now I’m head over flip-flops.

Oof, and the video that the singer has put out for it is really cute, too. Artsy and experimental and, of course, sexy. I can’t get enough.

Which is, I think, how she likes it.

Keep the Faith, Mars-ians!

Kristen Bell wants us to remain hopeful a movie based on her dearly departed show Veronica Mars will happen some day.

Or at least such a project isn’t off the table for her.

“We are still working on it,” she recently said. “We are – we, like the few people involved that have it in our hearts [including show creator Rob Thomas] are still assessing all of our options and game-planning it.”

Bell says that the creative team still known on the powers that be’s door every so often, championing the movie, but that money may be getting in the way, as it would.

“The reality is we need a few million dollars to do it and that’s a lot of money. It’s difficult to convince a studio to take a risk when you’re proposing to them to make a movie of a television show that’s been off the air for four years.”

We may need to start a fund....
